ZyProbio is a combination of probiotics, digestive enzymes, and herbs to optimize gut health and provide an immune boost.
It was developed by a gastroenterologist with over 35 years of experience based on scientific research.
What are probiotics?
Probiotics are currently defined by World Health Organization as a live microorganism, which when administered in an adequate amount confers health benefits to the host. There are trillions of bacteria which live in the digestive tract. Several hundred different species have been identified. About 80% of them are healthy bacteria, while others have the potential to cause damage to our GI tract.
The good bacteria keep a check on bad bacteria and limit the unhealthy bacteria’s ability to dominate the GI tract. The good bacteria can also secrete certain chemicals, which have the capability of breaking down toxins produced by bad bacteria, and activates the immune system to help fight the bad bacteria. When there is an imbalance between good and bad bacteria, it can lead to uncomfortable GI symptoms such as bloating, cramps, gas and changes in bowel habits. By dominating the GI tract with beneficial bacteria, the ability of bad bacteria to colonize is severely limited. Scientific research has shown that good bacteria can increase infection fighting cells, limit the bad bacteria or their byproducts from leaving the GI tract and entering the rest of the body, and preserving the immune system. These changes have been known to modify pain perceptions such as an irritable bowel syndrome.
Are all probiotics basically the same?
The answer is no. Most probiotics differ both in their bacterial composition and quantity. There are several hundred commercially available probiotic supplements. Some of them are single species of probiotics and others contain multiple strains of single species. There is also variability of the concentration of bacteria during each preparation.
There is no clinical evidence at this point to support the claim that the preparation with multiple species/strains of higher concentration of bacteria lead to improved symptoms. There is scientific evidence that individual gastrointestinal illness responds differently to various probiotics. Most probiotics available for purchase have never been scientifically tested and are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. The probiotics selected for ZyProbio are Bifidis bacterium and Bacillus coagulans 10 Billion CFU ZyProbio complex. Based on the meta-analysis of multiple clinical studies, these specific strains of probiotics were chosen, as they have been found to be most beneficial in alleviating GI symptoms, particularly irritable bowel syndrome.
